Dissertation Draft (first three chapters) from Spring 2006

I wrote the following 68 page "draft" of the first three chapters of my dissertation to fulfill requirements of admission to candidacy for my doctoral program in the Spring of 2006. Since that time, I have decided to narrow my research focus. I may use some of the references from this initial research, but basically I am starting over with a new dissertation prospectus.
